WHY REAL PLATES?
“We tasted our babies’ leftovers off their silicone plates. They tasted like detergent.”

ALMOST FOUR YEARS IN THE MAKING

From a late-night idea
to the Plate Mate.

After that taste test, we went searching for an alternative to silicone plates. We tried all of the other materials, before asking the question, "Why can't our children just eat off ceramic like we do?". Of course, it's because ceramic can break. As teachers, we thought about how we scaffold learning every day for our students and began designing a product that would provide a scaffold for little ones at the dinner table.

We spent almost four years prototyping, redesigning and problem-solving. During nap times, after bedtimes and while also growing our families and working as Primary Teachers.

The result is The Plate Mate: a butter-soft silicone base that holds real ceramic plates firmly in place. This is the product that we wanted for our own children, and we are so excited to share it with other Australian families.

With love, Greta & Jen x

Teacher-mum tested

Designed around how children actually learn to self-feed, with a raised rim that helps little hands scoop.

Made for real life

Fits most standard side plates, so it travels to cafés, grandparents’ and family pub dinners.

OUR MISSION
